I've personally never accomplished that myself, but playing the game without any upgrades whatsoever doesn't feel unfun at all for me. People have beaten the game on DMD from a new game without upgrading a single thing, not even levelling up Styles. if you can't play the game without any ugprades, maybe you're just not as familliar with each weapon as you thought you were when fully upgraded.
